Michael Clayton - Finally got round to watching the last hour of this. Wish I hadnt. When you have difficulty remembering one interesting thing that happens in a two hour movie youre in trouble. It may have been well received critically, but entertaining it was not. 1/10

An apology to the gay community
I just glanced over my reviews there and realised that my first 3 all commented on my dislike of a gay character! This does not represent ya'll and I just disliked those specific characters in those specific films. Big respect!
Ahhh memories

Resident Evil: Apocolypse - First off, just want to say that Im a massive fan boy of Resident Evil games, in particular the PS1 games. They havent aged that well, but damn at the time there was nothing more fun than killing crappy looking zombies while standing still and lacking any sort of mobility resembling natural human movements. For this reason, I was wary going into this movie, especially as the first blew so hard (in my opinion... just be glad I didnt have this blog when I watched it or I would have bitched so damn hard). The reason for this was mostly due to the fact that it had pretty much nothing to do with the games which made it a totally standard zombie movie using the name to get a few extra viewers. The only real links with the game in the first movie was the inclusion of Unbrella as the evil pharmacutical company responsible for the virus and the cameo of the William Birkin character at the end. The second movie did NOT get off to a good start when i realised that this character had been cut out and replaced with another character again totally unrelated to the game franchise. Sigh. Thankfully, the film only got better from this point onwards. Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera were both lead characters, which brought back waves of nostalgia instantly. Im still not sure about the Alice character, but as long as shes got back up like this, Im happy! Also, Nemesis is just awesome. "S.T.A.R.S...." Scary stuff! Wasnt too sure about his character change, but I guess it worked in the context of the film. I perfered him as the emotionless badass in the games though. All in all, it was a good action movie, with the added bonus of having lots of characters and references from the games. I have another major gripe with it though: They had quite a S.T.A.R.S-heavy story line, but Albert Wesker is missing... The movie could have been much better if he was incorperated in some way. But still, highly entertaining! 7/10

Classic horror movie curse strikes again...
24/6/09
The Shining - I went into this movie dreading that it may turn out to be a disappointment due to other recent viewings of "classic" horror movies which kinda sucked (the Exorcist and Friday the 13th, Im looking at you!). While it was better than those 2 movies, it was still a lil disappointing. It was one of those films where Ive seen lots of bits of, and any I hadnt seen directly had been seen as parodies. For this reason, ill never know what impact the movie could have had had I been watching it all for the first time. Jack Nicholson is great. Not just in this movie, but in general. If he hadnt been here, I probably would have switched off half way through. There were lots of "whats going on?!" moments and nothing was really explained... For this reason, it only gets a 5/10

American Beauty - Seen this one many times before, but I somehow remember it being... better? Its a good movie and very artsy with a very likeable lead character. Problem was, none of the rest of the characters were likeable at all. Parts seemed to drag much more than I remember them before and I got bored a few times. Also, I never really understood the gay army guy... It just seemed to happen out of the blue and there was no real hints that he might have been before this. Decided to go for a 6/10

Boring Lawyers and rowdy batchelors
21/6/09
Michael Clayton - Fell asleep about an hour in... May be due to fatigue and the fact it was 4am, or that the film was a boring lawyer film... George Clooney is OLD by the way... Will watch the last hour sometime and come back to this...

The Hangover - Really funny film. Lots of great moments with likeable characters. Beard guy provided around 75% of the humour, which was no bad thing! I do have one or two complaints though... Although its great to see Mike Tyson in a film, it was really quite pointless and kinda just seemed like they were desperatly trying to fit him in. Still funny though. Another character who seemed a bit forced with that gay japanese dude. They just seemed to throw him in as a solution to the plot, and wasnt really relevent to anything else. The funniest part was probably the ending, where they find the camera and we get to see the pictures from the night. Funny stuff! 8/10

Welcome to the incredibly harsh world of my film watching!
Basically, this is an idea stolen from Micky, in that I will be leaving my opinions on movies as i watch them. However, unlike Micky, I dont really have an aim of how many films to watch in a set amount of time, and am basically using this as a point of reference so i can check to see if I want to rewatch a film. Also, unlike micky, Im going to give a rating out of 10 so i know for myself exactly what films were awesome (10, though im unlikely to ever give a perfect score) or a discrace to the movie watching public (1. expect this to happen... a lot). So, on with the first review (I will be keeping them short and sweet)!
21/6/09
Rock N Rolla - Your typical Guy Ritchie film... London gangster type crowd... doing a deal with some foreigner, something goes wrong, some asshole tries to steal the cash, blah blah blah. I feel like I've seen this movie before so many times. The only real differences between this and the rest of his movies were the inclusion of a plot twist involving a homosexual gangster and the inclusion of a chavvy rockstar character (Yep, you heard right). There was a half decent ending, but one that could be seen coming from further away than the great wall of china. There were some entertaining moments and generally the humor was good. Not enough to hold my interest though. 4/10
Ok, so thats my first review. I'm off to watch Michael Clayton now (which, coincidently, has Tom Wilkinson in it, who was also in Rock N Rolla) in the hope that George Clooney can rescue what has been a poor day for film watching... Later.
